Leiden: Adriaan Wyngaerden, 1654. 12 o (129 x 72 mm). 6 engraved plates, including 5 folding. (Some minor marginal browning.) 17th-century French red morocco, covers with triple-fillet borders and central gilt arms of Jean Baptiste Colbert, spine in six compartments with five raised bands, gilt-lettered in one, a repeated gilt panel in the rest containing the Colbert's gilt monogram "JBC" surmounted by a crown. Provenance : Jean Baptiste Colbert (1619-1683), Minister of Finance under Louis XIV and one of the greatest bibliophiles of the 17th century, with his arms and monogram on binding as above, "Bibliotheca Colbertina" (17th-century inscription on upper margin of title-page); P. Grandsire (bookplate). FIRST EDITION of a collection of works on the lymphatics edited by Sibout Hemsterhuis. It contains reprints of Jean Pecquet's Experimenta nova anatomica (first published 1651; see lot 710), Thomas Bartholin's De lacteis thoracicis dubia anatomica and Vasorum lymphaticorum historia nova, and Olof Rudbeck's Nova exercitatio anatomica, exhibens ductus hepaticos aquosos et vasa glandularum serosa (first published 1653; see lot 760).
