Beschreibung:

in our time. Paris: Three Mountains Press, 1924. Small folio. Woodcut portrait of Hemingway after Henry Strater facing the title. Original decorated tan boards. Few short tears to spine paper in need of repair, repaired closed tear to paper on upper cover, endpapers discolored as usual. Provenance: Kate ("Kitty") Buss [1884-?] (presentation inscription). FIRST LIMITED EDITION, ASSOCIATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY HEMINGWAY TO KATE BUSS on the front free endpaper: "For Kate Buss with the best wishes of the Author / March 1924." Hanneman surmises that March was the month of publication. Kate Buss was a fellow American in Paris, a Massachusetts-born journalist who came to stay with Gertrude Stein. She was also a correspondent of Ezra Pound and tried to promote his poems in America. She wrote to Pound in 1923 inquiring about American rights to the publications of Three Mountains Press (Pound was the editor of the series in which in our time appeared). Two years before Hemingway gave her this book, she had received a presentation copy of Ulysses and given it an enthusiastic review in the Boston Evening Transcript (see Christie's, Dec 2, 2003, lot 12). No 150 of 170 copies printed on Rives hand-made paper. Hanneman A2a.
