A FINE ARRAY OF HEITZ CELLARS INCLUDING ELEVEN VINTAGES OF MARTHA'S VINEYARD FROM 1973 TO THE CURRENT 1997 Martha's Vineyard Actually owned by Tom and Martha May (hence the name) with the fruit being sold exclusively to Heitz Cellars. It was originally planted in 1961 by Bernard Rhodes, who, just two years later sold it to the Mays. Interestingly it is the Rhodes (Barney & Belle) who actually own the Bella Oaks vineyard in Rutherford, another of Heitz's great single vineyard cabernets. With proper storage the quality of corks chosen by Heitz have proven to be exceptional, more so than many Medoc crus. From many cellars and more importantly this cellar I have frequently recorded superb levels. The following lots reflect this observation.
