Contemporary English panelled calf (rebacked, corners repaired). Provenance : Stephen Peter Rigaud (1774-1839), Savilian Professor of astronomy at Oxford ("S. Rigaud" lettered in blind on front cover); Radcliffe Observatory, Oxford (ink stamp on pastedown and title-page). FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST PRINTED BOOK ON CALCULUS IN ENGLISH. "This is the first English work explaining Newton's infinitesimals and applying his method to obtain the tangents of curves, then their areas, and lastly, the problems of maxima and minima" (Babson/Newton).
