An assembled group of 48 pieces of sterling silver flatware from the Harlan family including: twelve sterling teaspoons, marked for Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co. or International Silver Co., monogrammed MSE; six sterling soup spoons, marked for the William B. Durgin Co. and bearing a retailer's mark for The Jas. R. Armiger Co., monogrammed EH; four sterling teaspoons, marked Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co. and bearing a monogram flanked by torches; four sterling teaspoons, unmarked but monogrammed T; three sterling teaspoons, marked for Gorham Mfg. Co. and monogrammed HFT on handle versos for Hettie Foster Turner Harlan (American, 1850-1937); three sterling demitasse spoons with twisted handles, unmarked but monogrammed HFH on bowl interiors for Hettie Foster Harlan (American, 1881-1950); three sterling cocktail forks, marked for Webster Company, Towle Silversmiths, and Reed & Barton, one without a monogram, the other two monogrammed EVH and H respectively; two sterling dinner forks, marked for Frank M. Whiting & Co., one monogrammed HFH and the other JTH for James Turner Harlan (1881-1931); one sterling dinner fork, marked for Whiting Manufacturing Co. and bearing a retailer's mark for Mansfield & Baird, monogrammed HFT; one sterling teaspoon, marked Wriggins and monogrammed HFT; one sterling teaspoon, marked D.C. Denham and monogrammed Hettie; one sterling spoon with a ribbed bowl, having an obscured maker's mark and monogrammed HFT; one sterling ladle, marked for Watson Company and monogrammed HFH; one unmarked sterling spoon with embossed fruit on the handle, monogrammed STH for Sarah Turner Harlan (American, 1879-1880); one sterling teaspoon, marked Justis & Armiger and monogrammed S.T.H. / 3-8-80; one pair of sterling tongs, marked for Dominick & Haff and bearing a retailer's mark for J.E. Caldwell & Co., monogrammed HFH; one pair of sterling tongs with an unidentified maker's mark, monogrammed HE; one pair of sterling tongs, marked for William B. Durgin Co. and monogrammed MSE; and one sterling salt spoon, marked for H.H. Curtis & Co.; PLUS six sterling salt spoons and six glass cellars with silver overlay, the spoons marked for Alvin Manufacturing Co., retaining the original box; PLUS a sterling silver cup, marked for Louis-Jacques Berger (French, active 1798-1807) with a rooster title mark, a Minerva mark, and a guarantee mark; largest lg. 7 in.; silver wt. (not including salt cellars) 38.19ozt (1188g). Provenance: Descended in the Turner Family of Newport, RI Condition: A couple of teaspoons with small dents to bowls. One with a bent bowl. Whiting Manufacturing Co. dinner fork with a bent prong tip. One salt cellar with a crack in the glass. Box with some fraying and stains. Cup with a small crack near rim and some small dents.
