Hans J. Wegner (b. Tønder 1914, d. Gentofte 2007) Arne Jacobsen (b. Copenhagen 1902, d. s.p. 1971) Erik Møller (b. Århus , d. Copenhagen) “Aarhus City Hall”. Desk lamp with green-lacquered metal base and adjustable shade, inside white painted, adjustable brass stem and foot, white bakelite push button switch. Designed 1938–1941. H. 35. W. 22 cm. Provenance: Aarhus City Hall, 1940s. The first version of the lamp was designed with a foot for fixed installation on the tables in the reading room at Nyborg Library. For Aarhus City Hall another foot was designed, so the lamp could be moved, and a version with a different shade was also designed. Both lamps were fixted on the desks at Aarhus City Hall. As far as known, none of the two lamps has since been in production. Literature: Planmøbel catalogue circa 1943. Photo from here. Literature: Jens Lindhe [red.], “Aarhus City Hall,”Arkitektens Forlag 1991, p. 50. Technical drawing of an other lamp with the same foot. Literature: Felix Solaquren - Beascoa, Arne Jacobsen Sanao & Cole, Spain. p. 66. It has often been discussed whether Hans J. Wegner can be attributed as the designer of the inventory and furniture for Aarhus City Hall and Nyborg Library. In 1938 the 24 year old Wegner was engaged by Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller to design the inventory and furniture for Aarhus City Hall. Since the project at Aarhus City Hall was not yet ready, Wegner was first was assigned to draw all furnishings for Nyborg Library, which Flemming Lassen & Erik Moller was to build. The fact is that Wegner has designed all the lines, though his name does not appear in the drawings. Literature: Nyborg Library's website
