Eileen Herlie (1918-2008), theatre and film actress, had a distinguished stage career, including the Queen in Jean Cocteau's The Eagle Has Two Heads, in which she delivered the longest speech in the history of the stage (2,982 words lasting 21 minutes) at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith in 1946, and as Gertrude in the 1948 film of Hamlet starring Laurence Olivier.
