Green laced hon-kozane nimai-do Tokugawa gusoku (armor) Edo period (17th-18th century) Comprising a sixty-two plate lacquered iron hoshi-bachi kabuto (riveted helmet), expansive hachimanza (decorative surround for aperture at crown) with outer gilt edging, an inner circumferential band of leafy scrolling on a shakudo nanako ("fish roe") ground, with five equally spaced mitsu-aoi mon (triple ginger-leaf badges of the Tokugawa family), and four central tiers of stylized floral surrounds, broad mabisashi (brim) with three round-headed rivets and shakudo fukurin (edging) carved with leafy scrolling on a nanako ground with gilt fukurin , four-tier black-lacquered itazane (straight-edged iron plate) manju-jikoro (neck guard) with small erect black lacquered fukigaeshi with gilt fukurin , gilt kuwagata-dai (fixture for stylized horns) engraved and applied with leafy chrysanthemum blossoms and with a central vajra-type sword hilt fitting, maedate (forecrest) of a gilt ken (double-edged Buddhist ritual sword), iron menpo with bushy moustache and detachable nose, four-tiered black-lacquered iron itazane yodarekake (bib), hon-kozane (true scales) nimai-do (two-part cuirass) of kebiki-odoshi (close lacing), matching kusazuri (skirt) of seven tassets each of five tiers of hon-kozane, shinogote (splinted sleeves) of ridged splints linked onto chain, the iron tekko (hand covers) embossed with floral motifs and the mitsu-aoi mon, o-sode (large shoulder guards) of seven tiers, metal fittings of shakudo and gilt each with a green and seaweed pattern dyed leather each with an applied mitsu-aoi mon against a nanako seven gilt mitsu-aoi mon , gilt-edged gyoyo (leaf-shaped covers for the shoulder straps) ground in a roundel, ikada haidate (thigh guard), seven-splint shino-suneate (lower leg guards), together with a pair of leather gloves bearing the mitsu-aoi mon , a black and gold-lacquered folding fan with a red sun against a gold ground on one side, and on the opposite side with a gold sun against a red ground and with gold lacquered mitsu-aoi mon , with its lacquered wood box and a wood plaque describing the armor as a yoroi (type of armor) from the Tokugawa collection
