Grant submitted his official account of the last year of the war only three months after Appomattox Courthouse. It details the campaigns that resulted in some of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. The report provides an intriguing overview of Grant's plan to bring constant pressure upon the Confederate Army in multiple theaters, a strategy which ultimately brought the victory that Abraham Lincoln had so long desired.
