Beschreibung:

Grant of Geoffrey, son of Robert “cum Legars”, of all lands he held in Ellerton and Tunstal, North Yorkshire, to ‘Harscho’ and his wife, Agnes, manuscript document in Latin on parchment [England (North Yorkshire), late thirteenth century] Single sheet, with 9 long lines in a tiny secretarial hand, contemporary endorsement on reverse, folds and small areas of discolouration, white wax seal and seal tag present (oval with a large wolf-like creature within inscription; chipped to side), 70+18 by 220mm. A fine English medieval charter. The abbreviated name ‘Harscho’ is evidently that of Harsculph (variant of Hasculf), son of William de Cleseby, himself the son of Lord Harsculph (see lot 71 above). Other documents recording him are to be found in Warwickshire County Record Office (CR 26/1/12/L/36 , and CR 26/1/12/L/12), and the Scrope Cartulary in Cheshire Record Office. He is recorded as having assaulted one Bertrand de Montboucher in 1310, while the latter travelled for King Edward II to Scotland.
