Title: "Grandest Scheme Ever Presented to the Public" - broadside for a lottery to benefit the Public Library of Kentucky Author: Place: Louisville, KY Publisher: Courier-Journal Printing House Date: 1873 Description: Broadside. Text in two columns. Woodcut illustration at the head of first column. 43x25 cm (17x10"). Broadside promoting the Fourth Grand Gift Concert [lottery] to benefit the Public Library of Kentucky, Louisville, 1873. Illustrated with a cut of the Public Library Building. “Grandest Scheme Ever Presented to the Public. / 12,000 Cash Gifts Amounting to $1,500,000. / Every Fifth Ticket Draws a Gift. / $250,000 in Cash for Only $50”. The broadside gives the details of the winnings of the Third Gift Concert in great detail, even naming the winners. Ex-KY governor Thomas E. Bramlette was still acting as agent for the library project. The event was scheduled for December 3, 1873. No copies located on OCLC. Lot Amendments Condition: Old creasing; near fine.
