Graham--Vintage 1945
6 bottles per lot
WEDNESDAY 7 NOVEMBER AFTERNOON SESSION AT 2.00 P.M. A FINEST COLLECTION OF RARE VINTAGE PORT We open this sale with a Selection of Fine Vintage Ports shipped directly from Vila Nova de Gaia cellars of the Symington Family, specifically for this Christies Amsterdam auction. The Symington family has played a significant role in the development of the Port wine industry. One of the largest vineyard owners and of a number of important brands like: Graham, Dow, Warre and Quinta do Vesuvio. Grahams, Dow's and Warre are always at the top of any vintage port declaration. Legendary wines. Over the years the Symington Family has bottled a very limited number of Classic Vintage Ports in Large Formats. Sometimes only 6 or 12 of each. These special bottles were never before released for sale. Vintage Port has the ability to age almost indefinitely and since the development in a large format bottle is even slower, the port in these bottles will keep its youth much longer. Ideal for longtime storage in your cellar and serving at a future dinner party, jubilee or birthday. Apart from these large formats we offer a small selection of rare mature Vintage Ports including Graham 1945. All bottles were tasted by the cellar master prior to recorking, closed with a new wax top, labeled and packed in new wooden cases, just before shipment to the Christies warehouse mid September 2012. Christies is proud to be able to offer you the unique chance to acquire some of these Classic Vintage Ports and very rare big bottles in pristine condition. Graham--Vintage 1945 In original wooden case Original dusty bottles, recently labelled and with new wax capsules Outstandingly the loveliest '45. First noted, 'undeveloped' in 1960 and in 1982 'at peak but 10-15 years of life'! Many consistent good notes. Deep-coloured, fairly intense, lively, attractive, long 'legs'; immediately forthcoming fragrance , spice, sweetness and fruit masking high alcohol content; the sweetest of eleven '45s tasted in Florida in 1989, and easily the best at 'The Worlds's Greatest Ports' tasting; a sweet-smelling, fragrant yet powerful wine, still tannic, profound. Michael Broadbent Vintage Wine March 1998. 6 bottles per lot
