Title: Golf Score Book, Compliments of The Crawford, McGregor & Canby Co., Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A. Author: Crawford, McGregor & Canby Co. Place: Dayton, OH Publisher: Crawford McGregor and Canby Co. Date: [1899] Description: [78] pp. Flip or “Flicker” book, with continuous photographic illustration of a woman golfer swinging a club on the bottom pages on recto sides only; score-card sheets inked in black and green on versos (some with penciled scores). Publisher’s color paper label with logo design on front free endpaper, as issued, and appears to be removed at rear. (Oblong 32mo) 4x2½, original white celluloid with cut-out trade mark logo on front and rear covers in shape of two crossed clubs and circle, stamped in colors (rear logo appears to have a small piece not present), single staple binding (as issued). One of the earliest known American golf “Flicker Book” ever issued. Contains interesting descriptions of golf clubs available through The Crawford, McGregor & Canby Company, Dayton, Ohio. Plus available score sheets on versos throughout since it was presumably issued as special gift booklet for patrons and friends of the company. More than likely done in a very small limited production. Copyrighted 1899 by Harvey Conover. Printed by The Whitehead & Hoag Co. Advertising Novelties, Newark, NJ. No other copies were located while cataloguing this item; nor found in any references consulted. Lot Amendments Condition: Light rubbing, faint impressions, tiny bump to lower portion of front cover; small bump with slight abrasion (possibly from a pebble) affecting bottom margin of about 12 leaves (not touching the woman golfer), evidence of removal wear and with a 1" tear on last leaf; still very clean and attractive overall; very good or better. Rare. Item number: 173498
