Magnificent fête book illustrating the Inauguration in Ghent of CHARLES VI (1685-1740), Holy Roman Emperor, as Count of Flanders in 1717. Charles VI was Holy Roman Emperor, King of Hungary (as Károly III) from 1711 to 1740, Archduke of Austria. From 1703 to 1711 he was an active claimant to the throne of Spain as Charles III. The superb plates show the ceremony at the Cathedral of S. Bavon, a representation of the feu d'artifice , the celebration at the grand Theatre, the triumphal arc which was erected, four pyramids of fireworks, and the town hall with a night-time fireworks display.
