(Light browning, some repaired wormtracks and a few wormholes mostly in the last gatherings.) Near-contemporary blind-tooled pigskin over black paper-covered sides, the spine stamped 'M.S.' and '1581', edges marbled (possibly re-cased, endpapers renewed, sides scuffed extremities rubbed, a few wormholes).

FIRST EDITION. The first part collects correspondence from Gesner to Leonhard Fuchs, Adolf Occo, and various others naturalists and physicians. The second part comprises two botanical treatises with three fine woodcuts of plants from Gesner's vast collection of drawings and specimens. The woodcuts depict aconites, and accompany Gesner's monograph on aconites and hellebores, the first monograph to be printed about these plants.
