Pennsylvania, ca 1890-1920, a rare plaque attributed to George Stapf (Harrisburg & Lancaster, PA, 1862 to 1958). A carved and painted eagle plaque with waving American flag having a gilt spread wing eagle, clutching a red, white and blue shield in its right talon which originally included an olive branch, clutching three arrows in other talon. The flag and shield having applied stars, the upper body facing left with open beak; 25 x 40. George Stapf worked in Harrisburg and Lancaster carving, eagles for government buildings. Condition: Early 20th century repaint, loss to some applied stars, re-glued arrows and loss to majority of olive branch.
