The Spotted Dog public house appears to be a real place and may be the establishment located in Chelmsford, England, mentioned by W. Toone in his compilation A Chronological Record, of the remarkable public events ... during the Reigns of George the Third and Fourth and His Present Majesty, published in London in 1843.
