Launched in 1954, the Jaguar XK140 was broadly similar to, though more refined than, its sensational XK120 predecessor, major engineering changes being confined to the re-positioning of the engine 3" further forward and the adoption of rack-and-pinion steering as used on the racing C-Type. XK140 performance was well up to the standards set by its exemplary predecessor, contemporary magazine road-tests regularly recording top speed figures in excess of 120mph. Tested by Road & Track magazine, a USA-specification XK140MC (as the C-Type cylinder head-equipped SE version was known there) recorded a 0-60mph time of 8.4 seconds on the way to a top speed of 121.1mph. This three owner XK140 to the superior US specification has covered just 16,000 miles from new and is presented in very good original condition throughout. The car comes with extensive history, including Jaguar/Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate recording that it was manufactured in May 1955 and despatched to US Jaguar importer Hoffman. The history file also contains the original service voucher recording that it was sold new by Keegan Motors Inc, of which it still has the original key ring, to first owner James Campbell Lewis, of Cornish, New Hampshire.With matching hood and original tonneau, this lovely unrestored XK140 comes with California Certificate of Title, original sales documents, full history file, tool kit, roadworthiness certificate and Belgian registration papers.
