His later edition would be written more for the general interest, omitting these hundreds of pages of observations. However, by the time the later summary came out, news of the discovery of gold had reached Fremont, and his later volume contained one of the first descriptions of the gold fields. Condition: Only light, scattered toning. Previous owner's gift inscription on ffep and later owners' bookplates on pastedown. Moderate shelfwear, with some fraying of lower edge on rear board. Corners bumped. Overall very good. In custom clamshell box.
