ITALIANS OF AN INTENSE INDIVIDUAL As an opera devotee, I've had the pleasure to know this consignor for a number of years and he has never been afraid to make his strong opinions known whether the subject be wine, women or song. This gentleman was very much into Italian wines before they came into vogue with the universally strong 1997 vintage. He prefers to buy in quantity each vintage from his favorite producers necessitating a cellar cleaning periodically to make room. With his intense love of Italian food and wine, coupled with his compulsive buying habits, I advised him recently to open a restaurant and I think with his good taste it would turn out rather well should he set on that course. Property of a Northeast Collector Removed from professional storage Justin Christoph Fontalloro--Vintage 2000 Tuscany, Felsina "The 2000 Fontalloro, as always, represents the estates best Sangiovese, from a vineyard which is partly inside and partly outside the appellation limits. A dark, deep ruby/garnet, its powerful nose of kirsch and plums is given additional complexity by the aromas of tobacco, damp earth, and underbrush which always characterize this wine. Rich in extract, firm and sustained in flavor, its tannins are more approachable than those of the two Riserva bottlings, but it will doubtlessly last longer as well, till the middle of the next decade if not longer." Daniel Thomases, Wine Advocate, #152 (Apr 2004) 1 double-magnum per lot
