FLOWN ON SKYLAB I – Skylab I mission emblem. 28 days in orbit—flown patch from a record-breaking flight. The design features the Skylab space station in orbit above the Earth which is eclipsing a yellow and gold Sun. The sun’s rays continue to all edges turning from tan to dark brown. The words SKYLAB I and names of Conrad, Kerwin, Weitz are along the upper and lower edges. The emblem is mounted above a provenance letter by Charles CONRAD, reading: "This cloth patch is one of two similar designs of the Skylab I emblem that is from my personal collection. The above patch has 'CKW,’ the initials from our last names, to the right of the Skylab space station. I was the commander of the first manned flight to Skylab. Our flight was delayed ten days in order to make plans for repairing the damage that occurred just minutes into the launch of Skylab, also known as the SL-1 mission. This patch was carried with us during the launch of the SL-2 Saturn IB vehicle on May 25, 1973, and flew in space for 28 days. My crew and I made the repairs during that time to enable a full duration mission. We returned to earth on June 22, 1973." Crew emblem, 4 inches in diameter, tipped to provenance letter.
