fine engraved pictorial title, final f. blank, R5 lower corner frayed with loss of a few letters, [STC 25912], [Richard Badger] for Robert Allott, 1633 bound with Wither (George) Wither's Motto. Nec Habeo, Nec Careo, Nec Curo., initial 'Explanation of the Embleme' f., engraved emblematic title, lacking final blank, very short tear to foot of 'explanation' f., touching part of 2 letters, with no real loss, [STC 25912, but with earlier engraved title], [[Thomas Harper] for John Grismond], [1633], both works trimmed at outer margin, just within image of title pages, affecting a number of catchwords and occasionally just touching main body of text with minor loss, occasional spotting, final few ff. of second work with some soiling, contemporary calf, rebacked, preserving original backstrip with a little loss to ends, modern gilt title to spine, rubbed, 12mo *** Both works are scarce. The second work collates to the 1633 edition, but with an engraved emblematic title from one of the 1621 editions. Withers was a poet, pamphleteer and satirist, who was imprisoned several times for libel.
