FINE BINDING] PRÉVOST, L'ABBÉ. Histoire de Manon Lescaut et du Chevalier des Grieux . Paris: Maurice Magnier, 1889. Copy 9 of 30 on papier de Hollane filigrané. Full blue morocco by Noulhac, the covers with a rectangular garland of leaf and flower tools, surrounded with a double fillet, spine in six compartments between raised bands (lettered in 2 and dated at the foot), the decoration echoing the cover motif, broad dentelles similarly tooled with brick red levant doublures and watered silk free endpaper, edges rough gilt, housed in a modern clamshell case. 12 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches (32 x 22 cm); [2] ff, 212 pp., a unique example enriched with superb watercolors by Louis Morin (generally signed L.M. but signed in full on the half-title and tailpiece) throughout, well over a hundred in all. The binding in fine condition, occasional minor offsetting from the watercolors, with the leather booklabel of Leon Rattier on the verso of the second endpaper. Louis Morin (1855-1938) was an artist of considerable distinction, a designer of posters, a book illustrator and a painter in oils.
