FAULKNER, William. The Ole Miss 1920-21 . Vol. XXV. Milwaukee: the University of Mississippi, 1921.
FAULKNER, William. The Ole Miss 1920-21 . Vol. XXV. Milwaukee: the University of Mississippi, 1921. 4 o . Photographic illustrations throughout. Original flexible imitation leather, gilt-lettered on front cover (some light wear); cloth slipcase. YEARBOOK OF OLE MISS, PRINTING HIS POEM "NOCTURNE". The poem appears on pages 214-215 and is unsigned, printing a facsimile of the manuscript poem within an illustrated border. He'd reworked an earlier poem and, based on criticism from some of his readers, revised it into "Nocturne." "He provided a black background, broken only by stars and moon, and drew Pierrot and Columbine rising out of the tops of tall candle flames. He had four other drawings in the annual. It was a craftsman's work, and he was apparently still thinking of some sort of gainful work as an artist" (Blotner, p. 98). William Falkner is listed on the staff of "Ole Miss" on p. 90 and as a contributing editor to the school newspaper on p. 94. On p. 135 he is listed as the "Property Man" for The Marionettes. John Faulkner Jr. is listed as a Trustee on p. 8. His father Murry C. Faulkner is listed as the Secretary of University on p. 15. Faulkner had begun submitting drawings for the yearbook in 1917. There are at least three illustrations in the annual drawn by William Faulkner and signed Will or William Falkner, his name before he changed it to Faulkner. Faulkner attended Ole Miss in 1917, 1918, 1921 and 1922, taking a two year break to join the Royal Canadian Air Force fighting in WWI. SCARCE.
