Beschreibung:

FALDA, Giovanni Battista (1648-1678). Il nuovo teatro delle fabriche, et edificii, in prospettiva di Roma moderna. Rome: Giovanni Jacomo Rossi, 1665-[?1669]. 3 parts in one volume, oblong 2° (274 x 415mm). Engraved throughout, 3 titles, 3 dedication leaves and 82 plates (33 in part I, 15 in part II and 34 [of 36?] in part III). (3 with vertical crease.) Old vellum. Early issue with the plates unnumbered. The ideal copy includes 36 plates in the third part, but as Fowler comments "All the copies examined... vary slightly in the number and arrangement of the plates," and this copy shows no signs of having had any plates removed. Falda's work is of great importance as an accurate and more or less contemporary picture of renaissance Rome. Two further parts were issued: a fourth part by Alessandro Specchi in 1699 and a fifth by Giovanni Domenico Campaglia in 1739. Cf. Fowler 116.
