Title: Excavations in Cranborne Chase, Near Rushmore, on the Borders of Dorset and Wilts - four volumes, one signed by the author Author: Pitt Rivers (Augustus Henry Lane Fox) Place: Publisher: Printed Privately Date: 1887-1898 Description: 4 volumes. Many lithograph plates in each, Vol. II with folding map frontispiece, Vol. III with engraved portrait frontispiece and several folding plates. (4to) rebound in half purple morocco and marbled boards, raised bands and gilt-lettering to spines, top edges gilt. Volume I is inscribed from the author on the title page, "The Teacher of Leeds from the Author." Bound at rear of each volume is the original cloth covers & spine strip of the original brilliant blue cloth binding, which is a facsimile of the Tablet of Kimmeridge Shale. Lot Amendments Condition: Spines sunned; contents are very good to near fine. Item number: 259205
