Provenance : Early drawing of a demon[?] with Greek captions on blank verso of animadversio leaf in second part; purchase note on imprimatur leaf, "Lamancha[?] 3 March 1853"; Robert Norton Ganz (bookplate). FIRST EDITION of the first official production of the Royal Society. Evelyn wrote in protest against the widespread destruction of forests for the fuelling of furnaces used in the production of iron and glass. The work was well-received and resulted in an increase in reforestation. Sylva was long a standard authority.
