Provenance: Samuel Hare Powel (1818-1885) of Powelton, Philadelphia, and 25 Bowery Street, Newport, Rhode Island; by descent to his son John Hare Powel Jr. (1837-1890), by descent to his son Pemberton Hare Powel (1869-?); by descent to his daughter Annie Hare Powel Brayton (1891-?); estate of Elinor Truesdale Marvell, Cliff Farm, Tiverton, Rhode Island. N.B. Samuel Hare Powel was an attaché at the French and English courts, c. 1840-1842, and later a Rhode Island state senator from 1870 to 1876.
