ELIOT T. S.: (1888-1965) American-born English Poet & Dramatist. Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1948. Rare T.L.S., T.S. Eliot, one page, 4to, London, 25th February 1952, to Miss M. St Clare Byrne. The letter bears two holograph corrections by Eliot. On the printed stationery of Publishers Faber and Faber Limited, Eliot states `..since although I had long given up questioning you on the subject, I had not forgotten the proposed edition of the Lyall (corrected by Eliot) Lisle letters. I knew that you had great difficulty in getting on with this work during the War, and I hoped that you had not abandoned it altogether.´ further concluding `… I shall certainly not decline to allow my name to be used as a patron of this programme.´ An interesting letter referring to Viscount Lisle correspondence. With a file hole to the upper left corner not affecting the text. EX Muriel St. Clare Byrne (1895-1983) Prominent historical Researcher, specializing in the Tudor period and the reign of Henry VIII of England. John Dudley, 1st Duke of Northumberland (1504-1553) English General and Politician who led, as a De Facto England ruler, the government of King Edward VI 1550-53, and unsuccessfully tried to install Lady Jane Grey on the English throne after the King's death. The voluminous edition of Duke of Northumberland correspondence would be published in 1981 long after Eliot´s death.
