EL MOROCCO A fine collection of vintage photographs and table articles from "El Morocco" nightclub. A fine collection of vintage photographs, table articles and souvenirs from "El Morocco" in its 1930s-40s heyday. Included are: an album with approximately 70 vintage photographs, most 8 x 10 inches, predominately showing guests at tables and around the restaurant, including many celebrities and many with club owner John Perona, a small vintage and larger view of the club exterior, and three larger portraits of Perona; a silver lamp from the El Morocco Champagne Room, with several red-fringed paper shades and one silver liner; three forks engraved "El Morocco" and one other; an enameled silver "El Morocco" zebra-striped cigarette lighter; two small enameled silver "El Morocco" zebra-striped cigarette lighters, one in its original box; a square "El Morocco" ashtray; a round "El Morocco" ashtray with a blue and white raised zebra at center; a small round "El Morocco" vase with blue and white striping, marked "El Morocco" on the bottom, chip to rim ; a decorative wall tile printed with the recipe for "Veal Chop Perona"; nine small "El Morocco" sterling silver matchbook and horseshoe charms housed in an "El Morocco" box; one small "El Morocco" gold toned lapel pin; and one "El Morocco" tea towel. Also present are four vintage souvenir photograph holders, one from Copacabana and three from Latin Quarter; and a copy of Restaurant News Nino's Continental of Palm Beach and Club du Moulin Rouge, circa 1940s. Excellent condition overall . A great collection of original photographs and items from the famous "El Morocco" nightclub in Manhattan, which flourished in the post-prohibition age under the careful oversight of owner John Perona. The large group of photographs really bring the objects to life as we see celebrities and other fashionable people of era enjoying the club, dancing, smoking, and occasionally enjoying a meal. Many of the photographs were likely taken by in-house photographer Jerome Zerbe, the original paparazzi, as Perona knew that seeing prominent people enjoying the club in the newspapers the following day guaranteed to bring more celebrities to the club. Shown in the photographs here are: Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, Jack Dempsey, Audrey Hepburn, Charlie and Oona O'Neill Chaplin, Kirk Douglas, John Wayne, Clark Gable, Salvador Dali, Jackie Gleason, Yul Brynner Marlene Dietrich and others.
