Morell for Adrianus Turnebus [Adrien Turnèbe], 1555. 18th century diced brown morocco, covers attractively gilt, leather spine label, six raised bands, all edges marbled. 11 1/4 x 7 3/4 inches (29 x 19 cm); (iv), 253, (1) pp., *^(2) A-V^(6) X^(8) [-X8, blank], text printed in parallel in two columns, Greek and Latin. Joints starting, somewhat toned throughout, lacks terminal blank, faded contemporary marginalia. Modern bookplate. An elegant edition of the Aristotelous ethikon Nikomacheion biblia deka, the Nicomachean Ethics. Turnèbe, remarked on by Montaigne as a prodigious scholar, was responsible for the printing of the Greek books at the royal press, in which he was assisted by his friend, Guillaume Morel.
