London: Smith, Elder and Co. 1846. 4to, 258 x 179 x 40mm. (10 1/8 x 7 x 1 9/16in.), orange sealskin, covers with double gilt fillet borders enclosing a strapwork panel with indented corners, tooled at the corners and centers of the sides with open oval leaves and dots, and extended at the sides with gougework to form an arabesque in the center, tooled with open dots and with a center oval frame with open oval leaves; spine in six compartments with five raised bands, gilt lettered and numbered in two compartments (dated at foot), a repeated ornament of a fleuron of open oval petals in an oval frame with open dots and gougework in the rest; board edges with single gilt fillet, turn-ins gilt, g.e., stamp-signed on lower turn-in : "THE DOVES BINDERY 19 C-S 02", red morocco pull-off case (slight wear to case) . Tidcombe Doves 707 (Pattern 869 R). Provenance : Edith Rockefeller McCormick, bookplate (sale, AAA/Anderson, 23 February 1934, lot 87).
