Small 8vo, original brown-salmon vertically ribbed cloth, decorated in gilt and blind, g.e., green endpapers, lower joint torn and chipped at the top third of the spine, spine a little worn at ends with some browning; a few scattered stains; quarter morocco folding case. FIRST EDITION, with the following points: title-page printed in red and blue, "Stave I" as the first chapter heading, green endpapers; text uncorrected, imperfect signature letter "C" at foot of p. 17; the closest interval between blind-stamping at left margin and left extremity of gilt wreath on front cover is 14-15mm. and the "D" in "Dickens" within wreath is perfect (corresponding to Todd's first impression, first issue); 2 pages of integral advertisements at end. This copy WITH MOUNTED CLIPPED SIGNATURE on front pastedown which reads: "always my Dear Sir Very faithfully yours Charles Dickens " Smith, vol. 2, no. 4; Eckel, p. 110; Sadleir 684 -- [Slipcased with:] DICKENS.
