It is probable that Dickens was writing to Sir Joseph Francis Olliffe (1808-1869), who had practised medicine in Paris since 1840 and became physician to the British Embassy in March 1852. A friend of the Count de Morny, Olliffe was appointed a knight of the Légion d'honneur in 1846. (2)
