Photographer: Jean Collas and Marc Vaux (1895 - 1971). Furniture for the Manik Bagh Palace in India. Circa 1932. 3 vintage warm-toned gelatin silver prints. Each circa 23 x 17 cm. Each with designer's stamp, annotated in pencil/red crayon and 2 with photographer's stamp on the verso. The son of Hermann Muthesius the German architect and interior designer Eckart Muthesius lived in India between 1930-1939. The Maharaja of Indore commssioned him to decorate and design his Palace at Manik Bagh in the modern International Style; it became a large-scale art project and Muthesius incorporated furniture designed by Eileen Gray Le Corbusier, Marcel Breuer and Ivan da Silva Bruhns. The images offered here show objects designed by Louis Sognot and Charlotte Alix such as the steel band armchair, a three-faced mirror ("Psyche") and a wriitng pad and blotter. – Corners slightly bumped, a few light handling marks, minimal oxidation mirroring in lower corners, one with light stain in right edge, otherwise in very good condition.
