This is a quarter plate vintage copy daguerreotype of the statesman, Daniel Webster. It is stamped on the bottom: "WHITEHURST."Jesse Harrison Whitehurst's importance in daguerreotypy is underscored by the almost 2 pages about him in Craig's Daguerreian Registry, by John Craig. He had galleries in Virginia (Richmond, Petersburg, and Lynchburg); in Baltimore, Maryland, Washington D.C.; New York City; and Wilmington, North Carolina. Half case. "Daniel Webster (1782-1852) emerged as one of the greatest orators and most influential statesmen in the United States in the early 19th century. As an attorney, he argued several landmark cases before the Supreme Court that expanded the power of the federal government. A dedicated nationalist, Webster was elected to multiple terms in the House of Representatives and the Senate, where he represented Massachusetts, and twice served as U.S. secretary of state." (source: History Channel website) NO RESERVE Condition:White residue in the shoulder area on the right side, and then again at 6:00 and 9:00. Professional work was performed to stabilize those areas.
