A Collection of relics belonging to Alfred Wenham, a British sailor on a British LCA operating in support of the American landing at Omaha Beach. [British and American: June 6th 1944.] An important Grouping of relics collected by Alfred Wenham, a British sailor on a LCA at Omaha Beach. The Collection comprises; 1. A small 48 star flag, hoist unmarked, reputed to have been given to Mr Wenham by a soldier in the 29th Infantry landing on the beach head. The flag stained and faded, the fly blown out. 590 x 870 mm. (23 x 34 inches.) 2. A British woolen Ensign, hoist unmarked, presumed to have been from Wenham's Landing craft. Slightly discolored and with a few holes. 400 x 900 mm. (16 x 35.5 inches.) 3. A miniature set of Alfred Wenham's 6 medals, including his Normandy medal. 4. Alfred G. Wenham's National Registration Identity Card. Slightly creased. 5. Two embroidered uniform patches, one a red crown, the other an initial "s' in a star; together with a coat pin with an American flag. 6. Alfred Wenham's LST and Landing Craft Association black cap, of post-war vintage. Provenance: Charles Wenham; by descent to his Grand-Daughter. A fine grouping of items collected by Alfred George Wenham, a rating on a British LCA. His LCA was in the first wave of craft landing American 29th Infantry troops on the west end of the beach. He made many trips (he said 19 trips) into Omaha Beach on that day, June 6th. His career as a rating on his LCA took him to the Sicily Invasion, the Anzio Invasion and D-Day. In 2017, at the age of 95, he received the Legion d'Honneur.
