CUNARD, Nancy (and others). Salvo for Russia. A limited edition of new poems, etchings and engravings produced in aid of the Comforts Fund for Women and Children of Soviet Russia . [Title on upper cover of portfolio]. [London: Privately Printed, c. 1942]. Four poems by Cecily Mackworth, James Law Forsyth, J. F. Hendry and Nancy Cunard, and 10 etched proof plates by John Banting John Piper Mary Wykeham, C. Salisbury, Julian Trevelyan Geza Szobel Dolf Rieser, John Buckland-Wright, John Buckland-Wright after R. Penrose and Ithell Colquhoun each signed and numbered by the artist, unbound as issued, but the leaves secured with a pin, and including 3 single sheet prospectuses for the work, with the order forms removed, leaving a perforated edge, contained in the original cloth-backed portfolio with printed label on upper cover, black silk ties. Provenance : “Nancy Cunard, April 1942, London” (inscription on front pastedown).The prospectus mentions an etching by Oskar Kokoschka and a new poem by Dylan Thomas but neither appear in the present published version. The prospectus also states that “The edition is limited to one hundred portfolios which will be sold at two guineas each.
