Beschreibung:

Sixth plate ambrotype of a young private wearing a common nine button shell jacket with standing collar. A Colt revolver is butt-forward in his belt balancing an odd looking elongated side knife that might be a cut down straight bladed sword. Identified in case, behind image as "E. Holloman / 27th NC / Co. A." Housed in half velvet book-form case. In June 1861, at the age of 19, Ezekiel Holloman enlisted at Fort Macon, NC as a private and mustered into Co. A of the 27th North Carolina Infantry, known as the "Goldsboro Rifles." He was wounded at Fredericksburg, VA on December 13, 1862; returned in January 1863; and killed in action at Bristoe Station, VA, on October 14, 1863. Condition: Pattern of cracking in emulsion, just to left of subject's face as well as on left side of plate. Wear/some emulsion loss along perimeter of plate.
