Beschreibung:

cover 1841 Soldier's letter (overall age toning) headed "Shrove Tuesday Moulmein 23rd February 1841" to Lancashire, annotated "From Bombardier Stanton B Company 3rd Battalion Artillery" , countersigned by the Commanding Officer and showing a fine strike of the circular "SOLDIERS & SEAMANS LETTER/4/BY SHIP" h.s. and, on reverse, a good strike of the very rare oval framed "MOULMEIN/FREE" h.s. in red with date inserted in manuscript and overstruck by London transit c.d.s. The long and very interesting letter refers to the fact that while the French Envoy was accepted at the King of Ava's Court his British counterpart was not. Undoubtedly one of the most significant Burma postal history items. Ex Dahlmann. Photo.
