Corelli, Arcangelo Two editions The Score of the Four Setts of Sonatas...For Two Violins & a Bass...Vol. Ist...Carefully Corrected...by D.r Pepusch [Op.I-IV] [score], London: John Johnson [1740] The Score of the Twelve Concertos Compos'd by Arcangelo Corelli...Vol. II.d...Carefully Corrected...by D.r Pepusch [Op.VI] [score], London: Benjamin Cooke, [1732] 2 volumes in one, 43, 34, 54, 43 and 139 pages, folio (c.40 x 25.7cm), frontispiece portraits by Cole, engraved throughout, bookplates to front pastedown ("L. Stephens Christ Church Oxon. 1757...J. R. Lunn...S. Joh: Coll: Cantab: 1853"), inscription by Robert Lunn to front endpaper, Dolmetsch Libray stamp and pencil shelfmark ("II C 54, 1 [...2]") to verso of titles, nineteenth-century panelled calf tooled in blind and gilt to period style, textblock becoming detached, modern repair to lower hinge with translucent adhesive tape A lengthy inscription by Robert Lunn, to his son John, dated 8 March 1853, provides a most informative glimpse into the history of this magnificent and well-used volume: "The two Volumes of Corelli's Sonatas and Concertos were purchased separately. The first volume belonged to L. Stephens Christ Church Oxon. and was bought at his Sale. The second volume was met with accidentally and they were afterwards bound together. It is probable the two volumes of the same Edition published by Benjamin Cooke are not in any Musicians Library in England. To a Professor of Music this Book is invaluable..." LITERATURE: RISM C 3799 and C 3852
