FIRST EDITION, 32-page publisher's catalogue at end dated September 1911, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "To Sidney Colvin with the greatest regard from J.C. 1911." Smith 15. "[Sidney] Colvin came into Conrad's circle by way of [H.G.] Wells and proved to be a lifelong friend of considerable understanding and loyalty. A literary critic as well as a connoisseur of art, he became Slade Professor of Fine Art at Cambridge, wrote a significant study of Keats, and edited Stevenson's fiction and letters"--Karl, p. 559.
