Beschreibung:

Collection of World War I sheet music Author: Place: Various places Publisher: Date: Various dates Description: About 130 pieces of music. All with cover illustrations, most in color. Most approx. 36x14 cm (27x10¾"). Numerous duplicates, but variant editions. A large collection of patriotic World War I sheet music, with pre-war songs such as "I Didn't Raise My Boy to be a Soldier," nationalistic tunes produced during the war, and victory songs produced afterwards. The color pictorial covers represent an important moment in the popular art of early 20th century America. Portraits of famous performers were added as a sales technique, often after the initial printing of the song; Sheet music was still the primary way in which melodies were spread in the late 1910s and reflect the changing tides of public sentiment. Much of this sentiment was singularly poignant, with many songs about mothers wishing their sons farewell, and newly minted soldiers promising to return to their lovers. Lot Amendments Condition: Most with wear, often separated or torn pages; conditions ranging from good to very good. Item number: 323628
