Beschreibung:

Lot of 116 photographs of famous or celebrated individuals from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, pictured in CDVs, cabinet cards, press photographs, or other loose snapshots. Comprehensive subject matter ranges from politicians, industrialists, and religious leaders to musicians, actors, writers, and other performers, specifically including Pope Leo XIII, Charles Lindbergh, J. Fred Muggs, Mary Pickford, and Cornelius Vanderbilt. Other images of note feature idiosyncratic nineteenth-century newsmakers Jennie Cramer, Josie Langmaid, and Chloe Lankton, as well as Josephine Mansfield and Edward Stokes. Homicide fatalities Cramer ("New Haven's Beautiful Victim," 1881) and Langmaid (the "Murdered Maiden Student" from Pembroke, NH, 1875) are represented by cabinet card and two CDVs, respectively, while a CDV published by J.C. Garrigues & Co. captures the exterior of the home of Chloe Lankton, a well-known chronic invalid. Several CDVs present portraits of Josie Mansfield and Edward S. Stokes, two of the three key players involved in one of New York's most scandalous love triangles. Condition: Condition varies. Please refer to digital images for conditions of specific photographs.
