RARE FIRST EDITION OF ONE OF THE FIRST ENGLISH BOOKS ON NAVAL MEDICINE. In this work Cockburn discusses various sicknesses afflicting seamen he encountered during his two years spent as a ship's doctor. Although he did note that fresh vegetables were effective in curing those seamen affliced with scurvy, he argued that the disease attacked the idle and therefore recommends exercise as the best preventative.
