Title: Civil War-era Carte-de-Visite photograph of an unknown man in civilian garb, standing in front of a scenic background Author: Place: New Orleans Publisher: Date: ca. 1859-63 Description: 2.25 x 3.75”. With imprint on verso: Anderson & Blessing, 61 Camp St., New Orleans, La., undated, ca.1859-1863. Pioneer photographers Samuel Anderson and Samuel Blessing produced CDV photos in their gallery at the Camp Street address from November 1859 until their partnership was dissolved in November 1863. Those four years saw the start of the Civil War, with Louisiana joining the Confederacy, and the federal occupation of the New Orleans in 1862. Thus the partners – who, for a time, also maintained a studio in Texas – produced photographs, now found as rare survivals, of both Confederate and Union soldiers, including officers of African-American regiments. Perhaps they are most historically notable for producing the only known photographic image, an 1850s Ambrotype, of the famed Jewish philanthropist Judah Touro. Lot Amendments Condition: Very good. Item number: 276229
