Headed "Slave Trade No. 3." Reads in part "I herewith transmit...a copy of a Treaty concluded at Sucre on the 23rd September 1840 between Her Majesty and the Republic of Bolivia for the Abolition of the Traffic in Slaves." Docketing on the verso. One page of a bifolium measuring 8x12½" from the "Foreign Office" dated April 26, 1844 to E. Molyneux who requested "a Copy of the order in Council of January 4, 1843, on the conditions on which coloured persons are admitted into the Island of Trinidad." George Hamilton-Gordon , 4th Earl of Aberdeen (1784-1860) was a British politician and diplomat. who served as Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1852 until 1855. During the 1840's Lord Aberdeen, as Secretary of State for foreign Affairs, took an active role in the abolition of slavery in all parts of the British Empire and the promotion of abolition elsewhere around the world.
