CHURCHILL, Winston S. Three autograph letters signed, one autograph note signed and a letter signed to [his aunt] Leonie [Leslie], 105 Mount Street and Blenheim, 4 October 1900 - 26 December 1908 and n.d., in August 1901 asking if she knows of the whereabouts of Bourke Cockran [U.S. politician, a former lover of Churchill's mother, who had introduced Churchill to American high society in 1895], the other letters on social matters, including a response to a request that 'H.R.H. [the Duke of Connaught] would like me to come after dinner', cancelling a dinner at two hours' notice two days after his first election as M.P. ('I have countermanded the dinner at Willis' Rooms. Please forgive me'), and on other matters, 4 pages, 8vo, in autograph, and one page, 8vo, secretarial . Provenance : Swann, 24 October 1985, lot 32.
