Garden City: Doubleday & Company, Inc., (1942). First Edition. D'Aulaire, Ingri & Edgar. COLUMBUS. Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1955. First Edition. Each book is approximately 12 1/2 by 9 inches in color pictorial board covers with color pictorial dust jackets, each of which retains the original price on the front flap. The "Columbus" is signed by the authors/illustrators on the front free endpage. Ingri and Edgar Parin D'Aulaire immigrated to the United States in the late 1920's. Edgar was born in Germany and Ingi in Norway. They met when Ingri attended art school in Munich and were married in 1925. They pursued separate careers at first but joined together beginning in 1931 to produce children's illustrated books which were popular and much celebrated. Condition: All three first editions are fresh and Very Good - Fine; the dust jackets show handling wear and modest edge chipping but are also quite nice. The "Columbus" has a previous owner's name/address written on the 1/2 title below the author's inscription.
