CAVICEO, Jacomo. Dialogue treselegant intitule le Peregrin. Paris, N. Couteau pour G. du Pré, 1527 4to, mm. 245x170 250x178; Binding of the XIXth century, signed: green morocco, blind tooling frame on covers with Greek decoration, inside linear gilt frame with floreal motifs on corners, deep gilt decoration on the spine with 6 ribs, lace-like tooling, blue endpapers, gilt edges; leaves [8], 168, [1]; Title page in red and black ink, many illustrated initials, Gothic type, three woodcuts at full page. Binder’s label on the first end paper: “Bound by C. Smith”. Fine copy, specimen with wide margins.
First French edition, beautifully illustrated, this script that was a huge success during the Renaissance. This work is also a travel book where there are descriptions of Mount Sinai, India, Syria, Crete, Macedonia, Cyprus and Corsica ... These stories circulated in manuscript at the court of Francis I and were then translated by Francois d'Assay. Dedicated to Lucrezia Borgia, the work is modeled on Boccaccio's themes arising mainly from the Amorosa vision and Filocolo, but both the narrative and the use of language, is directly connected to the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili.
